Its been revealed that the Luxembourg’s National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) has fined Amazon a huge - and record breaking - fine under the GDPR for the use of personal data for targeted advertising purposes without consent.

The decision has been revealed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing by Amazon on 30 Jul. Amazon says it disagrees and intends to appeal.

Its understood that the fine is the result of a complaint initiated in 2018 by La Quadrature du Net, which claims to represent thousands of Europeans in the crusade against Big Tech's, use of their data.

It is also reported that Amazon have also been ordered to change its business practices although the details of this are unclear at present and owing to various secrecy laws in Luxembourg to which the CNPD is subject, are likely to remain unclear for some time.
