Lewis Silkin - What's happening in employment law: A Labour government special:

Join us for an online webinar on 17 September 2024 at 9.30am where we will provide an employer-focused roundup of policy developments under the new Government. We will delve into their election manifesto promises and the policies confirmed since taking office. The proposed changes include significant reform to employment law including unfair dismissal, sick pay and parental leave becoming a day 1 right, banning of zero-hour contracts and changes to worker status and tribunal rules (to name a few!)

Referring to themselves as the “party of the self- employed”, Labour have promised to increase the rights of freelancers to demonstrate the significant contribution they bring to the economy. In addition to supporting the self-employed, there are also set to be some more generic changes to worker status. With atypical workers and freelancers carrying a large headcount in the Advertising & Marketing sector, it is important that these businesses are classifying those who they engage correctly and complying with the rights that come with the relevant status.

Another key change is set to restrict employers from contacting staff outside of working hours, with a new right to “switch off”. This is significant for advertising businesses, where working hours often become blurred with remote and flexible working arrangements.

This Labour Government special will provide technical and practical guidance to help businesses within the Advertising & Marketing sector to work through the changes with confidence and be alert for industry specific changes that are yet to be confirmed.
